06.10.2022 - Swiss Orienteering Days are small orienteering races that combine the mountain experience in the Swiss Alps with orienteering and a pinch of adventure. Thanks to the Swiss O Days, wonderful and interesting running terrain could once again be discovered in 2022.
Swiss O Days take place only in years without Swiss O Week. The Swiss O Week means real orienteering holidays for the whole family with a wide range of tourist activities. On the other hand, the Swiss O Days emphasise the solitude of the mountains. They are small but fine orienteering events in unique, often remote terrain in the Swiss Alps.
In July, the Col du Sanetsch in the canton of Valais was the venue for the first half of the Swiss O Days 2022. The preview promised water holes in bare rock, dot knolls full of alpine roses and glazed eyes for the participants. The promise was not exaggerated! The photos below and a look at the map (day 1 und day 2) show clearly why those who were absent are somewhat wistful in their hope that there will be orienteering controls to visit at some point in the future again.
At the end of September, the northern Ticino served as host to three varied Swiss O Days. From the valley of Bedretto with tricky slope controls to the incredibly diverse and technically highly demanding terrain above Lake Ritom and finally to the Piora valley, which shone in the most magnificent autumn colours and allowed for true high-speed orienteering (if the thin mountain air didn't put a stop to it).
The Swiss O Days 2022 have truly consoled mountain lovers about the year without Swiss O Week. But now the anticipation is fully focused on the well-known great terrain in the holiday destination of Flims Laax Falera. Welcome there in July 2023.
