O TRAINING IN THE WEEK BEFORE THE SOW
During the whole of the week before the SOW we offer a range of training possibilities with set controls or even organised training with timing. There is a wide variety of terrain with potential for interesting training for every family, club or team. The training maps are listed under Training.

The via ferrata Pinut can be climbed by anyone with the via ferrata kit at any time and at your own risk. The guided tours are, however, led by qualified mountain guides who will explain the history of this oldest via ferrata in Switzerland, show you the mountain panorama and uncover many hidden secrets. O maps with premarked controls and also timing are available from 08.00 to 17.00. You can therefore create your own personal training route. The shortest course is 5km. You will enjoy an excellent view of the SOW race areas. To get back to the car park from the finish you can either take the chair lift to Churwalden or speed down on the summer toboggan run.
In the event of bad weather the event will be postponed to Thursday. Parc La Mutta

Parc La Mutta unites astronomy, mathematics and Bronze Age cults to make a unique site with a special radiance. The 34 megaliths, large stones erected by hand, bear witness to an ancient time. Whether on a guided tour or an individual stroll through the park, you are sure to learn interesting details about these mystical stones and the Bronze Age in general. A look into the longest tunnel in the world
Wednesday 27th July und Wednesday 3rd August, 2011, 10.00 The AlpTransit Gotthard will be the new, level train route through the Alps. The tunnel through the Gotthard will be at the heart of the new connection. The 57km tunnel, the longest in the world, is expected to be opened in 2017. Take advantage of this unique opportunity to experience this pioneering work of civil engineering at first hand. Take a look over the shoulders of the engineers to see how the world’s biggest rail engineering project is taking shape. The information centre of the AlpTransit Gotthard AG in Sedrun will tell you all about the highest building site of the NEAT, and then you will be shown around the enormous construction site. Special guided tours are being arranged for the SOW participants that include talks, a visit to the information centre and an inspection of the tunnel (shaft head). Mixed O relay
Wednesday 27th July, 2011, 15.00, near Domat-Ems
We are organising a relay on the map Ils Aults. Each team has three runners with no restriction on age and sex. If need be, one runner would be allowed to run two legs. There are the following classes: SOW champions: all 3 legs: 8km, difficult. SOW challenge: 1st leg: 4 km, easy, 2nd & 3rd legs: 6km, intermediate difficulty. SOW holiday: 1st & 2nd legs: 4km, easy, 3rd leg: 6km, intermediate difficulty. Complete teams can be entered, or you can simply enter for a specific leg and teams will be arranged on-site. Afterwards there will be a barbecue in the idyllic start & finish area. Everyone cooks for themselves. The village butcher will be on hand to sell meat, bread and drinks. We’ll show you brief highlights of the Swiss O Weeks 1996 Brunnen, 2006 Zermatt and 2009 Muotatal. Enjoy the memories! Anyone can take part in this village orienteering event. Experienced orienteers will be on hand to advice on the use of map and compass. SOW OPENING CEREMONY AND PROLOGUE
Saturday 30th July, 2011, 14.30, Films Waldhaus
In Flims Waldhaus you will be able to watch the finish of the final of the SOW School Cup and also to cheer the VIPs as they finish their race. It gets more hectic after the SOW opening ceremony, for that is when the mass start of the prologue for the elite runners takes place. A short time later the winner will run in. The village musicians help to create a special atmosphere. SOW Training event

When the elite prologue is finished you will have the opportunity to run this loop race (about 4km) with mass start. Try to beat the best time of the elite and put that last psychological polish on your SOW preparations. It is maybe not so good if you end up searching for controls, for the famous Flimserwald is also notorious for searches. PRIZE-GIVING AND SOW COMPETITION
The prize-giving takes place daily at the SOW Centre rockresort and is enhanced by a music group from the village and other activities. Immediately afterwards the winners of the SOW daily competition will be drawn.

It is from Boccherini's string quintet in d minor, from ''ensemble le phénix'', with humorous comments and suitable for children from 6 years, this is classical music for everyone. The ''Botanical Bagatelles'' will enchant you and let you float off into a dream world. No more sore muscles, everything is easy and beautiful. Enjoy the evening with classical music in nature.

Gifted with enormous fantasy and spurred on by the fantastic stories of his grandmother, he turned the hotel hall into his stage and the guests into his characters. He was a story teller for his whole life. Let the poetic films of Daniel Schmid enchant you with the scenery that fuelled his fantasy from his earliest years.
