Parking
There are fee-charging car parks at the cable car stations in Laax (SOW Centre rockresort and meeting point for the transport to the races) and Flims (meeting point for the transport to the races). We recommend using the SOW shuttle, free of charge with your race number.

SOW shuttle busses
During the Swiss O Week itself the SOW shuttle runs between Flims Laax and Falera, with some busses running to and from Trin (camping). Extra busses will run at peak times before and after the competitions, the prize-giving ceremonies and the events. Your race number counts as your ticket. During the Swiss O Week you will not need to use your car.

Race days and race transport
All races (prologue and days 1 to 6) take place around Laax and Flims. The cable cars and gondolas of the Weissen Arena AG are used on days 2 to 5. These normally only run in winter and are opening specially for the Swiss O Week. Busses will be used for the transport to start 1 on day 1. On day 6 chair lifts will be used to all starts. A SOW mountain transport pass for the journeys with the cable cars and chair lifts of the Weissen Arena AG will be issued to you with the race documentation. The cost is included in the entry fee.
Meeting points and journey times – see under competitions/race days.

Assembly areas
The assembly areas are next to the cable car stations of the Weissen Arena AG. The finish is generally at the assembly area.
Meeting points and journey times – see under competitions/race days.

Changing rooms/showers
At your holiday accomodation. There are simple open-air changing possibilities at the assembly areas, also some covered areas for changing. Club tents are recommended.

Walks to the starts
The walks to the starts from the assembly area take between 5 and 40 minutes – see under competitions/race days.

Start times, competition classes
The competition classes have fixed start times. All participants entered under the same club name will be allocated start times in the same start blocks. If someone wishes to start with someone else instead of the club, then this must be noted under comments when entering.
Exception: the classes D/H10 have no fixed start times (in order to give parents more flexibility). They can choose their start time at the start (punch start).

Parents with small children can request early or late start times. Please note this on the entry form under comments (''early/late starts, small children'').

Parents that take part in a competition class can shadow their children in a holiday class after completing their own race. These parents should add the comment ''early start times, accompanying children'' to the entry form.

Other start time requests cannot be accepted.

Start times, challenge and holiday classes
No fixed start times are allocated in the challenge and holiday classes. The start time can be chosen at the start (punch start).

Terrain

Race concept
The effective kilometres and ideal times listed under competitions/courses apply to races over the normal distance.

O maps
The race areas for days 2 to 6 are being mapped fort he first time and have never been used before for orienteering.
Maps based on airborne laser scanning and aerial photos. Scale: prologue 1:5000, days 1 to 5: 1:10000, day 6 1:7500, contour interval 5m. Last update June 2011.
Mappers: Urs Steiner, Beat Imhof, Roland Hirter, Fausto Tettamanti, Fred Läderach.

Electronic punching
The Sportident electronic punching system is used. An SI card (Sportident card) is required. Please give your SI number on the entry form.

SI card rental
An SI card can be hired from the information at the SOW Centre rockresort for CHF 5 per race day or CHF 15 for 3 to 6 race days. The charge for lost SI cards is CHF 60.

Results in the holiday classes
The most important thing in the holiday classes is taking part. The time is not important. The aim is to find all the controls within the maximum time. Each day’s results will consist of an alphabetical list with the time taken.

Overall results
The race times of each day (D/H E and D/H 20 incl. prologue) will be converted to points in order to calculate the overall results of the SOW (Winners time divided by own race time, multiplied by 1000). The overall result is based on the total of the five best point scores (the best six for D/HE and D/H20).

Crèche
There will be a crèche for children from 1 year at the assembly area. No booking required. A kids-O will be offered free of charge.
Start time requests for reasons of looking after children will be accepted. Please note this on the entry form when entering the parents. See also under 'Start times, competition classes' above.

Dogs
Dogs are allowed to accompany participants on the 'holiday' courses only. Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times. The transport with the cable cars is free of charge.

Refreshments
There is a restaurant at each assembly area. There are also several restaurants at the SOW Centre rockresort where various meals including dinner are offered.

Insurance / liability
All particpants take part in the SOW 2011 Flims Laax at their own risk. The organiser accepts no liability. Competitors are responsible for their own insurance, in particular for search or rescue by helicopter. Foreign participants are asked to check that their insurance is valid in Switzerland. Please take your insurance card with you in the event of needing to go to a doctor or hospital.
